Introduction to Inclusive Leadership in Engineering

Abstract: What it means to be inclusive is the subject of recent books, articles, conferences, podcasts, and radio programs. Additionally, the word “inclusion” has been woven into organizational value statements of late; indeed, NSF reports that the Engineering Research Centers have inclusive cultures. What does being inclusive mean, and how does leadership play a role? This presentation will begin to address these topics as an introduction to the learning series titled, “Inclusive Leadership in Engineering.”

Biography: Jennifer L. S. Chandler, Ph.D. teaches in the Leadership and Interdisciplinary Studies Program in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts at ASU. Before obtaining her doctorate in leadership, she led major projects for national professional associations, like the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and federal agencies like the Secret Service. She also trained project managers, and conducted national information systems reviews for the military services. In addition to leadership research, Jennifer also conducts critical Whiteness research. Soon after the CBBG was formed, she began serving as the Leadership Advisor on the CBBG IDEA Working Group.
